The Hominin Movement Lab

The lab is still under construction but should be up and running by Spring 2020. Here's where it's at so far. The current equipment include:
And more to come soon!
- An 8-camera Vicon Vero system for 3-D motion capture.
- A walkway with 3 ground-mounted AMTI forceplates.
- A fullbody Xsens Awinda inertial measurement unit system for studying gait out of the lab.
And more to come soon!
I am currently accepting PhD students for Fall 2021! To apply see instructions on the UB Department of Anthropology website. Application deadline is 12/11.
In the Hominin Movement Lab we use advanced motion capture and gait analysis techniques to understand the evolutionary basis for human musculoskeletal anatomy. This includes understanding the basic biomechanics of bipedalism, and how it relates to human functional morphology. Future research will be focused on investigating gait in complex non-lab environments to understand how hominins are adapted for proficient locomotion on challenging terrains.
